Get Your Site’s Content Up To Speed to Keep and Gain Followers

When it comes to building and maintaining a successful presence on the Internet, content is king. If you look at some of the most popular websites, you’ll notice they all have one thing in common: lots of high-quality, unique content.

You should replicate this process with your own website by publishing trending content that people are interested in reading.

But how do you find trending topics? Read on to see how to find out what the latest trends are.

Five Tools to Find What’s Popular Around the Internet

1. BuzzFeed

Check out BuzzFeed’s trend section to see what topics users have upvoted. Granted, this only reveals topics in the BuzzFeed website, but given the fact that it’s one of the world’s most popular blogs, it can prove useful in finding trending topics.

Here, you’ll see a list of the top 20 topics that are currently trending. You can switch to weekly trends, however, by clicking the “Top Posts This Week” button at the top of the list.

2. BuzzSumo

One of my personal favorite tools for finding trending content is BuzzSumo. Enter a keyword that’s loosely associated with your niche, and it will reveal some of the top topics that are trending on social media.

BuzzSumo is great because it reveals the number of social shares associated with the topics. For instance, you can see how many Facebook shares, Tweets, LinkedIn shares and Pinterest pins a topic has.

If a particular topic has a significant number of social shares, it’s safe to assume that it’s a hot, trending topic. On the other hand, if it only has a handful of social shares, you may want to choose a different topic.

3. Google Trends

Google Trends isn’t a new tool by any means, but the Mountain View company has a visualizer tool that allows you to customize the results. The Google Trends Visualizer tool can be used to display 1, 2, 5, 10 or 25 trending searches simultaneously, comparing them side-by-side to see which ones work best.

Just click the grid box in the upper left-hand corner of the screen to customize your results. Since Google Trends pulls data from Google itself, you can rest assured that it’s accurate.

4. Hashtags.org

Another great tool for identifying trending topics is hashtags.org, specifically its trending Twitter section. As the name suggests, this tool reveals some of the most popular and widely used #hashtags on social media networks.

Don’t just look at the #hashtags, but also click on them to see what the posts are about. Normally, the name of the #hashtag is indicative of its content, but this isn’t always the case. So to better understand what the user is talking about, you should search for social media posts containing the #hashtag.

5. Reddit

Reddit is great because you can type in a topic, such as “sleep”, and get the top posts and comments related to it.

You’ll see what questions and comments are more popular by subscribing to the topics that pertain to your site. Best yet, you’ll see how many subscribers are in each subtopic to find and follow the latest and greatest shareable trends.

You don’t have to reinvent the wheel to find great content for your followers. Let these sites help you bring catchy content and boost traffic to your own site.
