When it comes to professional development, LinkedIn has always been the go-to choice for many businesses. However, certain features were lacking. And a failed attempt at developing a successful standalone app to foster group interaction left many organizational leaders looking elsewhere for a chance to grow professional communities.
Earlier this year LinkedIn quietly pulled the plug on its Group app. And in recent weeks it has announced an exciting new plan to streamline the group feature and making it available directly on the main LinkedIn site and app.
Why is this exciting? LinkedIn Groups have the potential to develop professional communities.
These shared spaces can make it easier for industry professionals to discuss current trends, plan networking events, and talk about the topics you’re interested in.
How LinkedIn Will Help Foster an Online Community in Your Field
Share Ideas
Talking to your professional community is easier than ever before, now with the ability to record and share videos. Discover and distribute new and fascinating content from your field with those in your groups.
Stay Current
Now you’ll be able to get notifications when there’s activity going down in your group. Comments, replies, and requests to join a group you manage will all warrant a notification showing up on your screen. This way, you’ll always be up-to-date on the latest group happenings.
Engaging Dialogue
Enjoy a more user-friendly experience and the ability to have more enriched participation.
The new Groups feature allows you to
- make edits to your posts and comments
- reply to comments
- post various images, original videos, and rich embedded media in the comments area
Accessibility
Never lose touch, even when you’re on the go with the LinkedIn iOS and Android app. Group admins will also be excited to hear they can continue management actions from mobile devices, too.
Connect with More People
While this feature hasn’t been unrolled just yet, you can expect to see it on your desktop soon! You can discover new groups through recommendations based on your network and interests from the My Network tab on your desktop.
Keep an eye out for the official addition of this function!
LinkedIn is now catching up to other platforms, and we’re excited to see how the new functionality and accessibility of Groups will change industry experiences. You can now connect more easily to other business leaders and continue to enrich your organization through networking and learning opportunities.
