Whether you’re putting out content on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly basis, you’ve probably found yourself in a pickle, struggling to come up with new, fresh ideas.
We call that a “content roadblock.”
Today, awareness and visibility for your brand is all about how search engines perceive and find your site. They want fresh content! It boosts your ranking and drives traffic to your page.
From the consumer perspective, no one wants to be bored with the same, dull piece week after week. When your site is up-to-date and current, you’re perceived as a valuable source of information, and they’ll think of YOU first, when they’re ready to buy.
So, how can you keep creating so BOTH sides are happy? We’ve come up with a few ideas that have worked for us.
1. Don’t Focus Your Efforts Strictly on Text
Text content is perfectly fine. In fact, it should be the bulk of your site’s content since both visitors and search engines are able to read it.
However, this doesn’t mean you should overlook the use of other forms of content:
- Video tutorials
- Videos related to your industry/niche
- Giveaways (everyone loves a something free!)
- Infographic
- Video/audio interviews
- Live webinars
- FAQ sections
Non-text content in your site will make it more complex and dynamic, which can certainly have a positive effect on its rankings.
This is just the tip of the iceberg — how can you get more creative?
2. Check Out Related Forums
Head over to Google and search for your industry + “forum.” It’s literally THAT easy to find information, conversation, discussion on just about anything under the sun.
Read questions and posts from people in your industry, or, better yet, YOUR CUSTOMERS! This can create a whole litany of new ideas, plus you’ll see what your people want.
When in doubt, start on Reddit.
3. Search Similar Businesses/Sites
Take inspiration from what people in your industry are doing. This also goes for learning what NOT to do. Sometimes seeing how brands can take it so terribly wrong is even more useful.
We love Technorati, a website database that allows you to explore thousands of sites from just about every nook, cranny and topic the internet has to offer.
4. Set Up Google Alerts
If the internet is just wholly overwhelming to you (as with many folks), get Google to sift through it for you.
You can set up simple alerts that will send you content based on your filters (topic, site, author, etc.) directly to your email.
