With many in-person presentations shifting to online live talks, how can one become a better presenter? In this video, John shows us some simple – yet effective – tips on how to engage an audience and successfully convey a message on a live online presentation.
To master any kind of presentation, the most important thing is to be well prepared. John’s first valuable tip is to contact your meeting chair in advance so that you can learn about your audience and use the information to best interact with the participants.
Another important point in previously contacting the chair is to give them details to help with your introduction and the audience engagement. This goes from the basic information of who you are and the topic you’re going to talk about, to some questions they can ask you during your talk.
After the preparation, it’s time to focus on the structure of your presentation. John reminds us of the importance of adding value in the first minute of your talk to attract the audience’s attention. This can be done by using a quote, for example.
It’s also essential to give some attention to technical issues. Keep in mind the word CLAP so you don’t miss these important elements to succeed in your video presentation: C – Content; L – Light; A – Audio; P – Position.
